Production of gulf killifish (Fundulus grandis) was investigated from 17 November 1977 to 10 July 1978 in 0.08 ha, brackish-water, earthen ponds at the Claude Peteet Mariculture Center. Gulf killifish averaging 30.7 g and stocked at 12,500fishjha deposited eggs on Spanish moss spawning mats from 21 March through 16 May 1978. The river redhorse, Moxostoma carinatum (Cope), is a Catostomid fish of east-central North America. In rivers where it is common, the river redhorse frequently affords a sport fishery, especially during its spawning period. During the period July, 1966, to July, 1968, 339 river redhorse were collected from the Cahaba River, Alabama. Scales from 183 of these specimens were aged and back calculated. Plate samplers constructed of VB-inch thick masonite were used in a bioassay study of water quality in the Black Warrior River near Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The samplers were placed in a fertilized pond and allowed to accumulate a dense population of larval chironomids (Chironomidae) for one month. Two farm ponds in south Florida were treated with a concentration of 0.5 part per million by weight of 1,1'-ethylene-2,2'-dipyridylium dibromide (diquat) on April 4, and May 21, 1962, to determine the effect this aquatic herbicide may have on the bottom fauna and plankton naturally existing in these two bodies of water.
