Recovery Of Tagged Fish During The Crooked Creek Bay Rotenone Study At Barkely Lake. Kentucky

Recovery rates were determined for marked fish released into 10 of 15 cove areas and 2 of 6 open water areas during the cove rotenone study at Crooked Creek Bay, an 85 ha arm of Barkley Lake, Kentucky. Fish were tagged with a F10y FD-68B dart tag and either released back into the same study area or introduced from an outside area. Of 986 fish tagged in the embayment, 89% were recaptured. Seventy-five percent of the marked fish were recovered in 9 cove areas, where marked fish were released back into the same cove section. History And Organization Of The Barkely Lake Rotenone Study

A cooperative study was conceived, organized and implemented by the Reservoir Committee and its member agencies, Southern Division, AFS. The Crooked Creek Bay (85 ha) of Barkley Reservoir was divided into various cove and open-water areas and treated with rotenone. Overall. 990 kg/ ha of fish were recovered.

Review of Coldwater Fish Management in Tailwaters

A trend in the stocking procedure of trout in tailwaters has developed as an outcome of increasing fishing pressure. Fingerling stocking of trout was initially recommended in tailwaters where an adequate food supply was available. and predation by predatory fish was not considered a problem. Eventually, fishing pressure increased and the fingerling trout were harvested before reaching a desirable size necessary to maintain a quality put-grow-and-take fishery. Consequently. stocking of larger catchablesize trout was resorted to; this procedure resulted in a quality put-and-take fishery....
