Preliminary Observations On The Establishment Of A Reservoir Trout Fishery

A sport fishery for rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) and brown trout (Salmo trutta) was created in the lower one-third of a 38,000-acre Oligotrophic reservoir. Maximum temperatures of 70° F. and a minimum of 3 p.p.m. oxygen were evaluated as criteria for establishing this "two-story" fishery. Stockings of 8 - 10-inch trout were made in the winter months and weight gains were up to threefold in a six-month period. Food utilized by the trout was primarily the threadfin shad (Dorosoma petenense). Movement of the trout did not exceed ten miles from the stocking locations, and a majority was...

Results of a Tagging Study on the Spotted Bass, Micropterous Punctulatus

One thousand seven hundred and forty-nine Spotted Bass were tagged in Allatoona Reservoir, Georgia, in the winter of 1961-62 and rewards were paid for return of the tags by sport fishermen. The nature of the Spotted Bass fishery and population density is described on the basis of these tag returns and creel census. Two hundred and sixty-two Largemouth Bass were tagged simultaneously and comparative data on the two species is given.

A Tagging Experiment On Spotted And Largemouth Bass Using An Electric Shocker And The Petersen Disc Tag

An electro-fishing unit developed for use on large impoundments was tested for efficiency in capturing Largemouth and Spotted Bass during the winter months for a tagging program. Experiments were conducted to determine mortality rate of fish captured under actual field conditions for the electro-fishing units described. Two body locations on Largemouth and Spotted Bass were tested for their ability to retain the Petersen Tag. Tagging mortality for one of the locations is given.
