Adult threadfin shad, Dorosoma petenense (Gunther), were stocked alone in ponds at rates from 100 to 1,600 per acre to determine the most efficient rate of stocking for maximum production. Total production varied from 84.5 to 290.0 pounds per acre while net production ranged from 36.4 to 169.0 pounds per acre. Since the introduction of the peacock bass, Cichla sp., into Florida in 1964, several southeastern states have considered introducing it as a new piscivorous game species. Tests show that fingerling peacock bass die at temperatures below 61°F., and, therefore, they would be unsuitable for introduction outside of tropical areas unless overwintered indoors or in heated water.
