Regulating the Possession and Commercialization of Wildlife in Florida

In order to ensure compliance with the state laws governing the exhibition, importation, exportation, possession and sale of wildlife, the Division of Law Enforcement of the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission has established the Wildlife Inspections Section. This paper will review implementation of Florida's 2 basic laws as they relate to regulation of these activities through law enforcement specialization.

The Scope of the Wildlife Trade in the United States

The United States is an important producer nation of wildlife and is one of the world's largest consumers of wildlife. The United States wildlife trade is briefly reviewed, primarily live birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and their products. This multi-million dollar business is growing larger each year causing greater demand for native wildlife and creating the need for each state to more closely monitor these commercial activities.
